BC Hydro Safety Rodeos

Since 2006 the Power Pioneers have supported BC Hydro’s Safety Rodeos at various locations in B.C.

The Safety Rodeo is a safety themed event open to BC Hydro employees and retirees and their families and BC Hydro affiliates. The annual family-friendly event features demonstrations and competitions, as well as games, activities and informational booths.

The highlight of the Rodeo is the Power Line Technician’s Competition, which showcases the expertise and skills of BC Hydro’s line workers who compete with honour, excellence and safety in a variety of line events. The Safety Rodeo serves as a qualifying event for the International Lineman’s Rodeo held in Kansas City each fall and the ENMAX Rodeo.

Safety Rodeo 2024

Due to the significant work involved and the rapidly increasing intake of apprentices, the BC Hydro Safety Rodeo that was scheduled to be held in 2024 at the Trades Training Centre will not be taking place. A plan for future Rodeos is in the works. However, participation in the ENMAX Rodeo & Safety Expo and the International Lineman’s Rodeo competitions will still be occurring this year.

For more information

If you would like more information on the Safety Rodeos email Ben Dobranowski phone 604-916-1081.

Volunteers may be needed for tasks such as registration, hosting of guests, children’s games, “Ask Me” site guides, assisting with food services, photography, staffing of booths, assisting with trades competitions, set-up and take down on the day before or after the event. There may be other tasks identified as the Safety Rodeo gets closer. It is intended that each volunteer will put in a three hour shift. Accommodation can be made for those who wish to work a longer or shorter time.

Why volunteer for the Safety Rodeos?

Thousands of volunteer hours have been donated to help plan and support the many jobs and activities it takes to put on this event for the Hydro employees and their families. Opportunities to volunteer are in Surrey and other locations depending on the year. These Safety Rodeos would not be possible without volunteers from across BC Hydro and the Power Pioneers. It is a great opportunity to work with and learn from BC Hydro employees and other Power Pioneers. An important part of our volunteering is that BC Hydro recognizes the contribution of the Power Pioneer volunteers by making a donation towards our Miracle Millions campaign in support of BC Children’s Hospital. We hope you will join us!
