BC Hydro has participated in the province’s regional Science Fairs since the 1950s and the Power Pioneers have carried on the tradition as ambassadors for Hydro since 1999. The Power Pioneers Power Smart Award goes to a student from grades 4-12 who presents a project that creatively demonstrates electrical conservation and its environmental, social and economical impacts. The winning student receives a certificate, a perpetual trophy and $100.
The Power Pioneers are on hand at the events to recognize the student projects, judge and present the awards. Each year up to fourteen awards are presented. The enthusiasm and excitement generated by the students, not to mention their considerable skills and creativity, make this a favourite annual event for the Power Pioneers.
