Jeans Day - 2008
Power Pioneers volunteers will be helping to sell $5 Jeans Day buttons and stickers and $20 lapel pins at BC Hydro offices throughout the province until Jeans Day on Thursday, April 24 in support of BC Children's Hospital http://www.bcchf.ca/. New this year are stickers, an option to buttons. Stickers may be worn by workers such as power line technicians, where buttons are a safety hazard.
Organizer Phil Horton hopes to raise $15,000 this year. "Our Jeans Day volunteers, employees as well as Power Pioneers, will be out at Central Park Place, 401 West Georgia, Powertech, Powerex, LMS, Vehicle Service Garage and other BC Hydro locations." He adds, "Our volunteers in the past have done a super job and feel good knowing they've helped in a worthwhile cause."
The run-up to Jeans Day has been well supported by employees and volunteers who advertise with posters and sell buttons at their workplaces. Every person who buys a button or a pin will receive a grand prize entry form to win an air trip or a Whistler vacation. Tax receipts will be issued for the $20 lapel pin. Any cheques are to be made payable to Power Pioneers.
Money raised from Jeans Day directly benefits BC Children's Hospital and goes towards the Power Pioneers' Miracle Million goal. Funds enable the hospital to purchase urgently needed equipment, fund research in childhood illnesses such as cancer and diabetes, and fund special projects for public education.

Last year the Power Pioneers presented a cheque at the Telethon for more than $50,000, which included an endowment fund from moneys gathered through other means. With the success of other fundraising efforts such as the digital Christmas card already under their belt, the Power Pioneers are poised to help in a big way yet again this year. This year's cheque presentation will be at BC Children's Hospital on Sunday, June 1. Look for Power Pioneers and their Jeans Day Display featuring an extra, extra large pair of jeans in the Edmonds and Dunsmuir lobbies during March and April.
