Heritage Fair Awards

The Heritage Fairs Program is about bringing people together to make history come alive.

Heritage Fairs, held annually in every province and territory across Canada, are designed to increase awareness of Canadian heritage. Students from grades 4 to 10 are invited and encouraged to research and construct a historical project of choice, and present it in a public forum.

BC Hydro Power Pioneers sponsor both the B.C. Regional Fairs and the B.C. Provincial Fair. We offer an award at the regional level for the project that best represents some aspect of the history of BC Hydro or its predecessor companies. If there is no project meeting the criteria, the award may be presented to a project showcasing a B.C. pioneer. The award consists of the Power Pioneers book, Gaslights to Gigawatts, along with a Power Pioneers winner’s certificate.

Our members attend Regional Fairs held throughout the province in the spring to assist with judging the entries, to present the Power Pioneers award, or in some cases to do both.
