Tri-Cities Power Pioneers Fall/ Winter

Report for 2025

This Fall we have had numerous wonderful events and speakers at our monthly meetings at Ricky’s on the corner of Schoolhouse and Lougheed in Coquitlam.

In September we welcomed Sue Heuman who presented “Falls Prevention” from Seniors Helping Seniors.

This topic was really important for retirees. Just one minor slip can end up in months of rehabilitation work. We were so pleased to have Sue come to visit and talk about this problem and how we can try to prevent falling.

In October, Les and Monika Giles provided a wonderful explanation and Power Point on “Octoberfest”. They had recently been visiting Germany and we learned a lot more about this country than most of us who had even travelled there knew.

In November, we showcased some of the “Hobbies and Crafts” our TCPP members have.

It is amazing how many of us are quietly busy doing our favourite things and no one knows how busy we are. So at this meeting we had some of our members present some ideas and ways to make our retirement years enjoyable and possibly productive too.

Our first presenter is Barb Rossi who spoke about her “Knitting and Crocheting” activities. Barb has 20 Great Grand children now and has made baby blankets for them all.

Our second speaker today was Bev Legge. Bev has been making beautiful “Cards” for many years. At Christmas she makes 85 cards and well over 100 during the rest of the year. You need a very steady hand and a good eye to do this work.

Our third presenter was Les Giles. Les’s hobby is “Photography” and we have been benefiting from this with his numerous holiday presentations on his excursions around the world. Les showed us a few of his “favourite” beautiful photos. Our group is lucky to have Les provide travel logs occasionally since he is quite an expert.

Our fourth presenter was Monika Giles who does “Scrapbooking”. She has a great talent making their photo albums look beautiful.

Bob Merrison – Bob has been doing “Woodworking” for a number of years on multiple projects. Today he showed his Teapot Tipper which is very useful for people who have difficulty lifting and pouring heavy pots. He also showed us some birds for your plant pots and discussed how he had been making a Guitar. Bob is very talented and we appreciated  his demonstration.

Lastly, Delia Cooper showed the Hang Tough Grocery Bags which she and the members of HT arthritis support group had been making as a fundraiser for that group since it is not funded by any large organization.

We really appreciated the variety of expertise and talent of our own TCPP members.

Since November was also our AGM, we confirmed our Executive and welcomed Jaci Miller as our new Vice President. Les Giles became President and Delia Cooper is now Past President. Cathy Shideler is continuing as Secretary and Juliana Theissen is continuing as Treasurer. Congratulations to everyone.

December was our wonderful Christmas Party at the Port Coquitlam Inn and Suites.

We have had an exciting and interesting Fall and Winter in 2025. We wish everyone a very happy New Year and a healthy, happy 2026.
