2026 REGIONAL SCIENCE FAIR

Bill Fernihough, Gary Hilton and Ben Dobranowski were judges at the South Fraser Regional Science Fair held at Kwantlen University Newton Campus on Monday, April 13. Due to a lack of judges this year, Ben and Gary were assigned to judge the Junior Energy projects.

Bill had the assignment of picking the winner of the BC Hydro Power Pioneers award from amongst about 15 applicants.  It was a tough choice, as three of the top projects in his mind were well done by highly capable and self-taught students.

The BC Hydro Power Pioneer award was presented by Bill the next day, Tuesday April 14, to two students, Ryan Huang and Charlie Sung, for their project on Harnessing the Energy of Speed Bumps.  It was about redesigning those Speed Bumps on our roadways to produce electricity from the Energy available by a vehicle driving over them and using a generator in the bump to produce power.
