The Okanagan Shuswap Regional Science Fair was held held Mar 10-11 in Kelowna.

The judging and presentation was done by Okanagan Branch member Bill McCracken and was his first time judging the event.

Award Winners were Grade 7 students Zayden Merchant and Edward Haythornthwaite. Their project title was Eco-friendly battery options and how they compare to standard batteries. Bill McCracken presented the award to Zayden and Edward.

From Rick Unger: ”In today’s mail (Canada Post) I received an envelope forwarded by the Power Pioneers office at D15 which was a thank you card addressed to me from the Power Pioneers award winners at the Science Fair in Kelowna, Zayden and Edward. They thanked BC Hydro for their sponsorship and recognizing their project.

As this is my first year as Science Fair Chair, I don’t know if this has happened in the past, but I was really touched by their gesture (and that of their parents)! Certainly Bill McCracken deserves some credit, as does our organization, and the volunteers at the fair who made it happen.
