CENTRAL INTERIOR SCIENCE EXHIBITION
UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN BC
April 11, 2026
The Science Fair was held on Saturday April 11 at the University of Northern BC.  Four members of our Northern Branch volunteered in judging the science exhibits that students brought to the exhibition.   Our members, Rudy Zellman, Tim Thompson, Al Beeson and Randy Zemlak, judged sixteen of the forty seven exhibits at the fair.  The medal round judging was to determine which recipients won a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal for their exhibit.

Later that evening Al Beeson and Tim & Gail Thompson attended the awards ceremony to present the BC Hydro Power Pioneers award to a recipient that had a science exhibit that reflected an electrical theme.  Pictured with Al Beeson is this year’s winning recipient Leo Nesbitt a grade 5 student from St Mary’s school in Prince George.  Al presented a $100 cheque and the recipient will also receive the Power Smart trophy.  Unfortunately the trophy was unavailable at the time of the award ceremony but will be presented to Leo when the Awards committee receives it from last year’s recipient.

Also pictured is Leo with his exhibit on ”Electromagnetic Fields”. He demonstrated how to create an electromagnet by wrapping copper wire around an iron nail and connecting it to a battery. He determined that the more wraps of copper wire, the stronger the magnet.

Photos were taken by Gail Thompson.
