Larry Niedjalski gave the following report on the Science Fair:
We had another enjoyable and successful Science Fair in April. The youth that were recognized by Power Pioneer Judging are:
Power Pioneer’s Trophy— Yuanzhi Wang for Autonomous Cleaning Robot. An environmental tool for cleaning beaches and other sandy areas (playgrounds).
South Vancouver Island Power Pioneer’s $100.00 Award— Edmond Aphiwetsa and Sting Zhang for Self Driving Garbage Picker. Another environmental tool for sorting recyclables.
Power Pioneer’s Book Award— Bowen Bratzeer for Electrical Generator Greatness. A working model of a hand turning turbine generator unit which measured voltage as the output.
3D printers were used for all the above, which were fantastic. Coding, servo motors, photo sensors and integrated circuits made the projects very functional and well displayed.
