Did you work at Mica or Kootenay Canal?
You are invited to join in the celebrations. Please note, space is very limited so it will be first come first served and open to Power Pioneers who worked at Mica and Kootenay Canal. Important details below for RSVP.
Mica 50 year anniversary – August 11
In December 1976, the first generating units at Mica were put on line. BC Hydro is marking this occasion with a lunch and presentation at Mica dam, August 11, 2026.
The event starts at 11:30 am for lunch at the Mica Creek townsite, followed by a presentation at the dam and optional plant tours. The entire event will be over at approximately 5 pm, if attending the optional tour. Attendees are required to provide their own transportation and accommodations are not available at the townsite.

- Your previous role at Mica and approximate dates when you worked there
- If you are interested in the optional full tour or optional partial tour:
- Optional tour full PPE required and you must bring your own hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses, flame resistant and high visibility clothing
- Optional partial tour – no PPE required
- Any food restrictions
RSVP is required by May 15, 2026.

Kootenay Canal 50 year Anniversary – June 24
The first two generators came online in October 1975, with the remaining two units coming online in August and October 1976. BC Hydro is commemorating 50 years of Generation at Kootenay Canal.
Our celebration will begin at 11 am, June 24, 2026. Lunch will be served at 11:30 am followed by speeches and cake. There will be a chance to mingle with site staff and members of the executive team. Closing ceremony to end at 3:30 pm. Attendees are required to provide their own transportation and accommodation if needed.

- You plan on attending the event at Kootenay Canal (5301 Blewett Road, South Slocan)
- Your previous role at Kootenay Canal and approximate dates when you worked there
- If you would like to say a few words
- Note parking is very limited so guests will need to park by the main gate between 10:30 – 11:50 and we will arrange for pick up and shuttle to the powerhouse.
