Upper Island – Christmas Lunch December 10, 2025

Branch News |

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with Family and Friends.  And all the best to you for the New Year 2026.

Upper Island had our Christmas Lunch on December 10 at the Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort & Conference Centre, 1155 Resort Drive, Parksville BC.

The weather co-operated. No Snow which made all of us very happy.

75 people arrived and there were lots of hugs and catching up on what everyone had done over the year.  Before lunch we were entertained with a skit ”Grandma got run over by a reindeer”.  Ted Olynyck updated us with all that BC Hydro has done over the past year.  Warren Quan updated us on Provincial News and our Cost of Living pension amount of 2% for 2026.

Our Christmas lunch buffet was excellent.  Our crafty ladies met at our Sir Rom meeting room in the Jinglepot substation the first part of December and designed the table centre pieces.  One person at each table won the centrepiece.

There was a raffle draw and the 50/50 draw which was a huge success.

Raffle Draw:

  • We raised $478.00 which will be donated to the Nanaimo and Regional General Hospital.

50/50:

  • We raised $537.00 in total.   $268.50 was donated to loaves and fishes.  $268.50 was won by Barb Halliday and Barb graciously donated her winnings to the Loaves and Fishes.

We would personally like to thank all the volunteers that made the Christmas lunch so successful by helping with the following:

  • Registration
  • Volunteer hours
  • Raffle Table
  • Literacy Table
  • Membership
  • Lunch and Table set up
  • Prize Donations
  • Making the fabulous Centre Pieces
  • Theatre Group-Grandma got run Over ty a Reindeer
  • Clean up

It was a very enjoyable day and we hope that everyone had a really good time.
