Ramble to Redwood Park
It was a perfect spring weather morning for the Tuesday 10th June Ramble to Redwood Park in South Surrey. There were 10 folks showed up for a leisurely stroll amongst the amazing array of tree species from around the world, planted by David and Peter Brown. Starting in 1881 these brothers, on reaching the age of 21 and who were both deaf, began planting trees on the land given them by their father David, who had arrived as a pioneer in 1878. The excentric brothers lived in a tree house they had built up until their deaths in 1949 and 1958, with a replica still remaining. I think our group were clearly surprised by or reminded of what a unique and enjoyable exposure to nature; Redwood Park provides the visitor.
Afterward we visited Hazelmere’s West Coast Bistro, where 13 folks enjoyed the usual ambiance and food on offer here. At the suggestion of Lexi Robertson before eating, a remembrance of Reg Ahern our larger-than-life Pacific Branch member and avid Ramble participant was offered. It just seemed appropriate after Reg’s recent passing, to have him in our thoughts, having just spent time doing what Reg and Carole loved so much.
There are to be no more Ramble’s now until September 9, enjoy your summer, wherever it may take you!
