Community Service Award Winners 2024

Sahara Ourdane – Grade 12  Earl Marriott Secondary School

School related activities:

Stage Manager of School’s Theatre, assisted in the production of their One Act plays:

“Shrek”  “Beauty and the Beast” and the main stage play “Puffs”. She is actively engaged in all aspects of the Theatre – Technical productions, Prop making, coaching the Actors, etc.

Community Activities:

Lived in France for two years and volunteered with “Malima Maraude” an organization that distributes food and clothing to the poor and destitute.

Volunteered as a technician with the White Rock Player’s Club

Joined PICS in 2022. A Non- profit that works to fight water shortages world-wide and feed the hungry at home.

South Surrey’s Women’s Place working in reception and assisting with serving hot meals.

Revera Whitecliff Retirement  Home assisting the elderly doing physical exercises, card  games, arts and crafts and Board Games.

Also volunteered at her local Mosque organizing events and serving food.

Punum Grewal – Grade 12 Panorama Ridge Secondary School

School and Community Activities

She maintained a 4.0 academic standing.

In the last 11 years she has helped fundraise $40,000.00 for the Surrey Memorial Hospital.

Participated in fundraisers for victims of domestic abuse, the Terry Fox Foundation and Sophie’s Place.

Volunteering with her dad with the Association of South Asian Professionals distributing food, blankets, cookies, coffee etc. to the homeless.

Volunteered with an organization called Night Shift giving out clothes & food to those in need, also worked for the YMCA, helping run kids programs and events by her leadership setting up these programs for them.

Selected into the leadership program at her school for example …. referee games, run school wide events and in the community initiated garbage collections in the neighborhood and Crescent Beach

Spent hours recruiting volunteers, getting sponsors on board for food donations or making sure everything is packed for outreach and doing what is needed to make sure the volunteering event is successful.

In grade 11 Punum was a member of an outdoor leadership group for a Co Op Program.

She also played in a high level women’s soccer league and will continue this activity at SFU.

Punum has been accepted at SFU into the Beedie School of Business. Her future goals are running her own business and attending law school. She is a high achieving, very involved student not only at school but in the community.
