Pacific Branch Delivering Books to Bridgeview School in Surrey

Branch News |
On November 20, 2017, John Strobl delivered new children’s’ books to grade 3 and 4 students at Bridgeview Elementary School in Surrey BC.

Money to purchase these books come from recycled pop cans donated by Power Pioneers and others and from the sale of used books and cash donations at the Pacific Power Pioneers Monthly Luncheons.

The Book donation program was started in 2013 and raised $915 in it’s first year. The goal of the program was to raise $10,000. The program total at the end of 2017 is almost $10,000. That’s a lot of pop cans and used books! John Strobl along with his helpers Wayne McLeod and Erne Winkelmann collect, organize and recycle all of the pop cans over the year.

Books are ordered through the Scholastic Canada Book Program and these purchases earn program points which are then available to schools to purchase much needed equipment. This year it was used to buy reading chairs for the students.

Books are also donated to the Children’s hospital and other schools.

To donate pop cans and used books, please bring them to the Pacific Branch monthly meetings.
