This year both Williams Lake and 100 Mile House had difficulty obtaining the minimum number of applicants required to allow a Community Service Award to be presented. Williams Lake had only one applicant for the award while 100 Mile House received two applications leaving neither branch able to qualify to present an award on their own. The three applications were therefore combined to reach the minimum number to allow one award to be presented. Consequently a meeting was held with representatives from both Williams Lake and 100 Mile House in attendance.
It was decided that the $1000. would be awarded to, Kelsey Blockland, a very deserving student from Williams Lake. Kelsey is a gifted student who uses her leadership skills and athletic talents to give back to her community. As well as being an accomplished swimmer herself, Kelsey volunteers as an assistant swim coach. Kelsey’s volunteering also included assisting in an elementary school classroom with the goal of becoming an elementary school teacher. We wish Kelsey all the best in her future endeavors.
President of the Williams Lake Branch, Don Barnes and President of the 100 Mile House Branch, Dave Abbs, presented the $1000. award along with a framed certificate to Kelsey Blockland to commemorate her win of the Community Service Award for 2016.
Kelsey’s parents, Patti and Neil Blockland, joined Kelsey for this significant presentation.
