Stew Wallach, Past President SIPP presented the Community Service Award winner Alexander Mulder with a $500 cheque, CSA Certificate and a book ”Voices from Two Rivers”.

Alexander thanked the power pioneers for the award, and thanked all the power pioneers for their work with BC Hydro and into retirement. BC Hydro is BC’s past, present and if he has anything to do with it our future as well.  Thanked the pioneers for building the province he gets to call home.   He started volunteering when he was five, with his Dad in the conservative party where he met then minister of defence Jason Kenney. Despite not agreeing with his politics anymore it instilled in him the desire to help people and community regardless of their party colours. (this brought about a giggle by everyone).  He now volunteers in a nonpartisan way.  He is part of the rotary club at school and they have done social and environmental initiatives in his four years in the club. He has just stepped down as president.  He will use his award towards going to Italy and France and work to a degree in international relations, and get into the Foreign Service. He hopes to help Canada on the global stage and he thanked everyone again for his award.

A few of Alexander’s community services – Vernon Junior Chamber International on the team for the Coldest Night of the Year to support Upper Room Mission – personally raised over $4,000; served meals at Upper Room Mission; Volunteers at North Okanagan Radio Amateur Club; Assisted marshalling Winter Carnival Parade; Member of WL Seaton Rotary Club becoming president; Led fundraiser for rebuilding and resupplying a damaged school in Nepal; Fundraiser for Seaton athletic club and their Robotics club; Fundraiser for the Okanagan Learning Foundation.
