May Lunch and General Meeting

Our next Pacific Branch General meeting and luncheon is Thursday, May 30, at the Semiahmoo
Fish & Game Club (1284 184 St, Surrey). The entrée will be a new menu item (from our regular
caterer) Lasagna with salad and dessert at a cost of $26.

PLEASE NOTE: The meeting will start at 11:30 and lunch served at 11:40 to accommodate our
guest speaker Kerri Sumner who will speak on “How to Move & Live Better when you have
Pain.” (Kerri hosted our Zoom Chair Yoga fitness session during COVID.) The seminar will be
about 1.25 hours with exercises and breaks. We will end with our usual 50/50 draw, free lunch
draw plus a few special draws.

Wednesday, May 22, if you will be attending the meeting and lunch. To get an accurate count
for our caterer please indicate if you will be attending alone or with someone.
If you planned to attend but find that you need to cancel, please call Ben as soon as possible.
There is a possibility if you cancel too late you may have to pay for the missed lunch.

Program Details

The program for the meeting will be Kerri Sumner, daughter of Penny and Wayne McLeod. Kerri  will share some information that may help those who live with persistent or chronic pain.

Kerri  is a yoga teacher and Certified Pain Care Yoga Therapist specializing in working with people living with chronic pain. She is currently completing a 300hr in-depth Pain Care Professional mentorship program with Neil Pearson* (*Physiotherapist, Clinical Assistant Professor at UBC, pain management educator, Yoga Therapist and author). Her final practicum includes sharing with a group pain care education and information providing tools for people to live better when they have pain.

The topics that will be covered are:

-What is Pain?

-The difference between acute and persistent/chronic and the science behind it

-Why does my pain get worse when I do certain things, or when I do nothing at all?

-Is pain changeable? How can I start to change my pain?

-Steps to moving (and living) with less pain and more ease, improving quality of life

-Practices to try – breathing exercises, gentle movement (which we will try as a group)

There will be time for questions and members will also receive take home handouts and resources for reference.
