Power Pioneers

Seniors Safety

The BC Hydro Power Pioneers, in partnership with the BC Crime Prevention Association, provide Seniors Safety presentations to groups throughout B.C.

The BC Crime Prevention Association (BCCPA) is the province-wide association dedicated to preventing crime through community partnerships.

The key to the effectiveness of this program is community support and the involvement of seniors as presenters to educate other seniors. The objectives of this partnership are to:

·  educate seniors about personal safety

·  identify common frauds and scams

·  identify ways in which seniors can prevent frauds and scams

·  to provide information on community resources

About 35 presentations are available, covering a variety of topics including home security, street sense, personal well-being, banking and legal issues, and frauds and scams.

These interactive sessions vary in length and average 20 to 30 minutes.

Our group liaises with local police to ensure that the information provided at the sessions is current, relevant and correct.

To arrange for a presentation or to volunteer to help with this program, contact program Chair Verna Webb at 250 477-9367, or Bryan Bodell at 604-826-0428 or email bryan_bodell@telus.net.
