What We're Up To
Everything we do comes under the heading of “Supporting our Communities and Each Other.”
Our members are involved in these projects to support our communities:
- Aquarium
We donated three aquariums to B.C. Children's Hospital, in their Emergency Department, Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic and the OR waiting area in the Ambulatory Care building. Our team of volunteers maintain the aquariums, with assistance of an aquarium specialist, Something Fishy Aquariums
- Caring Crafts
Knitters and crocheters all over the province are making items for local hospitals and seniors’ care homes. The B.C. Children’s Hospital is a major recipient of our baby toques, slippers, blankets and other items.
- Awards
Through all of our branches, we offer awards to students to recognize outstanding community service, and we also present awards at regional history and science fairs.
- Hydrecs
Power Pioneers are generous contributors to BC Hydro’s employee community services fundraising efforts (Hydrecs).
- Literacy
Branches are collecting books year-round for schools, especially in areas with a high poverty level and a large percentage of ESL students.
- Miracle Million Campaign
Through several seasonal campaigns, we are raising money towards our goal of donating one million dollars to B.C. Children’s Hospital by 2017. Efforts include Jeans Day, an electronic Christmas card and the Festival of Trees.
