Power Pioneers

About Us

BC Hydro Power Pioneers Association was inaugurated in 1989 and since that time has expanded from 3 to 15 regional branches throughout BC, representing almost 5,000 retirees.

The Power Pioneers Association provides opportunities for those who want to stay connected and involved and who enjoy being active and want to participate in events and projects with BC Hydro and our communities.

Power Pioneers keep in touch with each other through monthly luncheon meetings, social and community events, our website and the biennial Jamboree.

An important mission of the Association is to assist each other, particularly in times of need. Care representatives ensure that members are visited at home or care facilities.

Power Pioneers are encouraged to stay active and fit by participating in the Power Pioneer Lifestyle/Volunteer program.

Our History Group's mission is to preserve our legacy, which we do through various projects such as the Gaslights to Gigawatts History book, Stave Falls History book: Station Normal and a history section on this website. We are currently launching a new history project in partnership with BC Hydro: Voices of the Two Rivers, the oral history of the people who worked on the Columbia and Peace projects and were affected by these projects.

The Power Pioneers' motto, "Continuing a Lifetime of Service to Our Communities." All Regional Branches become involved in fundraising activities to support both local and provincial charities. Power Pioneers seek appropriate partners for programs that will be of benefit for our communities. Our partners include BC Hydro, B.C. Children's Hospital and the B.C. Crime Prevention Association.

The annual Hydrecs campaign offers Power Pioneers a way to donate to the charities of choice and know that 100% of their donations will reach the charity, as BC Hydro pays all administrative costs.

We welcome retirees and employees who wish to join the Power Pioneers. We are confident you will enjoy the experience.
